Section Information

Joey Scouts

Wednesday 5:30-6:15

Joeys enjoy games and craft during the hour, most with an educational basis. The four main badges Joeys earn are completed as a group (mob). Adventurous activities, environment challenge, buddy badge, and caring and sharing. These are normally completed over one term each. Joeys have one major badge (optional), The Promise Challenge, which they work on at home and present their results/project to the mob. This is started after the age of 7

Cub Scouts

Wednesday 6:30-8pm

Cubs enjoy games and educational activities, although not like a classroom. Cubs work their way through boomerang challenges to gain awards and also have the opportunity to gain proficiency badges in activities in the Cub Scout Record book. These activities range from Literacy badges to Bushcraft, Space, Cooking, and Sports to cater for all different types of youth. The major award for the Cub section is the Grey Wolf. This award takes the Cub approximately a year to complete, and furthers their understanding of the Scouting traditions. Every 3rd year the cubs have the opportunity to attend a state Cuboree (camp), held over 5 days, 4 nights. This is a great activity to get cubs ready for scouts.

Scouts

Thursday 6:30-8:30pm

The Scout section also enjoys a range of games and education activities. The Scout section leads the scouts to be more independent in their awards and to work within their team (patrol). Working through The award program they learn about water safety, environment and emergencies at different levels depending on the age. Gaining proficiency badges is encouraged in the Scout section and some of the activities include abseiling, caving, sports, and science. The major award in Scouts is the Australian Scout Medallion. Scouts enjoy activities outdoors culminating in a 3rd yearly 12 day Jamboree (camp). This is one of the most exciting activities in the scout section and is usually talked about for quite a few years after the event.

Venturer Scouts

Friday 6-8pm

The Venturer section is more independent from the leaders and is run by the Venturers with guidance from the leaders. The major award for the Venturer section is the Queens Scout Award, which is regarded highly by most employers and can add points to university entrance scores, this award takes approximately 2 years to complete. Venturers enjoy a range of outdoor and indoor activities and also have the opportunity to help in the younger sections.
